Manholes
Description: MANHOLES - A manhole should pass at least these major tests.
It should:
(a) Provide convenient access to the sewer for observations and maintenance operations,
(b) Cause a minimum of interference with the hydraulics of the sewer, and
(c) Be a durable structure.
All manholes are circular with the inside dimensions of 4' and 6' diameters, depending on the size of pipe and are made mostly of concrete with a small amount made of brick. The top sections of the manholes are conical with a 24" to 30" manhole frame and cover for access. Manholes are placed on the sewers when a bend or change in grade occurs and are spaced no more than 400' apart. There are standard and water tight lids depending on the topography.
